Ultrasound (USG)

Ultrasonography (ultrasound/USG) is an examination that uses ultrasonic waves. The use of ultrasonic waves in diagnostics is safe and carries no harmful effects, even when examinations are repeated multiple times. For this reason, ultrasound is described as a non-invasive procedure and can be performed even in young children and pregnant women. Ultrasonography is used across all medical specialties. In gastroenterology, it is the primary examination for abdominal organs such as the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, and spleen. Ultrasound can detect focal lesions (tumors) in abdominal organs, liver cirrhosis, inflammatory changes of the pancreas, and gallbladder stones. In specialized gastroenterological centers, ultrasound is also used to assess the intestines, particularly in patients with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and diverticular disease. At our ultrasound unit, we perform the following examinations:

  1. Abdominal ultrasound
  2. Liver elastography + abdominal ultrasound
  3. Doppler ultrasound of the portal venous system
  4. Transrectal ultrasound of the prostate (TRUS)
  5. Testicular ultrasound
  6. Penile ultrasound
  7. Thyroid ultrasound
  8. Breast ultrasound

Correct examination technique and accurate interpretation of ultrasound images require extensive experience and specialist expertise. At our clinic, all ultrasound examinations are performed by specialist physicians with many years of professional experience in gastroenterology and ultrasonography.
