Preparation for Ultrasound Examinations
ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND
On the day before the examination, it is recommended to:
- Follow a light, easily digestible diet, avoiding in particular: vegetables, fruits, wholegrain bread, seeds, and pits.
- Take Espumisan 3 times — 2 capsules each time. This medication is intended to reduce excess air accumulated in the gastrointestinal tract, which interferes with ultrasonic waves and can hinder the examination.
6 hours before the examination:
- Do not eat any food
- Do not drink carbonated or sweetened beverages (still water is permitted)
- Do not smoke
- Do not chew gum, sweets, or lozenges
2 hours before the examination:
- Do not drink water
For examination of the urinary bladder, it is recommended to drink 1–1.5 liters of water 1 hour before the examination and not to urinate until the examination has been completed.
TRANSRECTAL ULTRASOUND (TRUS)
On the day before and on the day of the examination, a light, easily digestible diet is recommended.
- Do not drink carbonated beverages
- Ensure a bowel movement has occurred before the examination
- All regular medications should be taken as usual on the day of the examination
