Anaesthesiology Consultation

An anesthesiology consultation is required for patients:

1. Aged over 80
2. Aged over 70 with significant medical comorbidities — such as ischemic heart disease, a history of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), atrial fibrillation, coronary stent placement, severe asthma, advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), poorly controlled diabetes, or a history of thromboembolic events

The consultation is required to determine whether a patient with the above conditions is suitable for anesthesia in an outpatient setting.

The patient should bring the following:

1. Medical history records (clinic visit notes, previous test results)
2. Hospital discharge summaries
3. A list of all currently taken medications

Test results no older than 3 months:

1. Full blood count (FBC)
2. Electrolytes – sodium, potassium
3. Total bilirubin
4. Creatinine
5. Glucose
6. APTT and INR (if the patient is taking anticoagulant medications)
7. TSH (if the patient is taking thyroid hormone preparations – Euthyrox, Letrox)
8. ECG (valid for 6 months)
