The final farewell to Professor Eugeniusz Butruk, PhD (Med.)

It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to Professor Eugeniusz Butruk, MD, PhD. An outstanding physician, scientist and academic. For many years, he served as Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Clinical Oncology at the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education, and of the Department of Oncological Gastroenterology at the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw. He was the founder and President of the Polish Gastroenterology Foundation; a member of numerous national and international scientific societies; and the author of many scientific publications. He was a pioneer in gastrointestinal endoscopy and the founder of the Polish Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme. He was a mentor and master to many generations of Polish gastroenterologists. He was an exceptional man.

We shall miss you greatly, Professor.
